Success Article

Read the article/watch the video and compare the idea of success to the movie 42.
Create several discussion questions about success.
Note any areas of the film or article you want to discuss.

Discussion Questions You can find evidence to discuss:
  • How can injustice impact the success of someone negatively or positively?
  • How can we relate the idea of success in the movie 42 to success people experience today?
  • How can we relate the challenges Jackie Robinson experiences to challenges people face today?
  • How does the student in the article contribute to his success?

Outline/Thesis Check

5/11/2015

Your speech thesis should differ from your paper by:
  1. Recognizing your subject as already successful and addressing a way we can continue to help them prosper.
  2. Recognizing your subject as unsuccessful, but proposing ways we can help them become successful.

For example:
Paper: Because of poor urban schools in New York lacking resources, these students experience little success.
Speech: Due to low income urban schools in New York lacking resources, which hinders the success of students in education and their futures, we should help by providing work/study programs, more scholarships, and hiring creative teachers who have successful experience in low income schools.
