Mission:Welcome to English! My hope is that you will find yourself a place in my class where you feel you belong, and where you feel you can showcase your strengths and improve any weaknesses. In this class you will be pushed a bit outside your comfort zone, but that is OK! You will be working on skills that help you prepare for your future college and career, and along the process, developing your own critical thinking. These skills will be mastered through a vehicle of resources from classic literature, modern literature, speeches, writing and discussion.
In my classroom, I have adopted what I call "the dinner table philosophy". This means that we will treat most discussions like a family does at a dinner table. I use this philosophy because growing up, the dinner table was a place where we could talk about anything, and enjoy our meals. And of course, who doesn't like to chat over food?! We will make each other feel comfortable and welcome, and like all families, we will not always agree; however, we will always respect each other. So welcome to my table, and Bon Appetite! Common Core State Standards A Bit about me:This is my 6th year teaching, and my first at Metea Valley. I am so excited to call myself a Mustang! Prior to Metea, I taught 4 years at Bradley Bourbonnais Community High School as an English and Journalism teacher, and I also taught 2 years at Bremen High School. I am currently working towards my M.A. in English; and this summer I put quite a bit of miles on my shoes traveling to Italy, Greece, and Turkey with students through my favorite travel company, EF Tours. I attended Lincoln-Way East High School, and grew up in the Orland Park and Frankfort area, and I graduated with my Bachelor degree in English and Communications from Eastern Illinois University.
